Today, I’m bringing you some new music from Cambridge musician Gavin Chappell-Bates who has recently released the new single taken from his debut solo album ‘We Are The Ones’. Check out the new track ‘Church of Rock n Roll’ below.
This is a rock and roll tinged number from the off with rapid guitar playing creating edgey and jaunty sounds that ring around your ears wonderfully. The great and steady rhythm of the drums compliments the vocal delivery which mixes flowing harmonies with a concise and exacting voice delivering every note. Gang vocals and chaotic cymbal hits really fill out this track so it is full to bursting with melodies, strong sounds and brilliant moments, all of which make for a strong single that will be a highlight of all his live sets from now on.
The 12 track album is the culmination of years playing in bands, writing songs and gigging relentlessly. Gavin’s friends, family and fans helped pick the final tracks to feature on the album which was recorded and produced by James Coppolaro and features Rob Gibiaqui on drums, Anna Scott on cello, Prue Ward on violin and the choir Full Score conducted by Ralph Woodward.
It was an album that was greeted with good receptions from many places, here’s what Never Enough Notes had to say about Gavin and his music; “Unapologetic and uplifting pop-rock… these honest and accessible tracks are going to put a smile on your face…We foresee Gavin snagging some more promising support slots and making medium-scale festival appearances next year. If he’s not, we’ll eat our hats.”
Inspired by the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Feeder and Ash, you can hear the influences running throughout the album mixing perfectly with the indie pop rock style of Gavin’s music. Having featured regularly on BBC Introducing, BBC 6Music, XFM and Amazing Radio, this artist was nominated for Best Male Solo Artist at the 2015 NMG Awards.
