A few months ago, I made of list of food places in Sheffield I wanted to visit, Picture House Social was top of that list after spending months reading great reviews and drooling over the Instagram pictures of their food. Though I have been there a couple of times since writing that list, the time was never really right to check out their food, mainly because I’d just eaten before ending up in there.
However, a couple of weeks ago, me and my boyfriend took part in their Showboat music quiz and coming second we won a voucher for two free pizzas! If that wouldn’t have kicked us into gear to finally try out their food then we were past hope. A week after the quiz, we headed over to Picture House for Friday night pizza and drinks and we were not disappointed with this place that comes so highly recommended.
As soon as we arrived, we ordered drinks at the bar in the main room, cider for me, porter for him. After getting our drinks, we went straight through to the back room to bag a table and get our pizzas ordered. After quick deliberation, I settled on the Beetroot, Goats Cheese and Dill pizza, while my boyfriend opted for the Prosciutto, Rocket and Balsamic pizza. Despite the big number of orders coming in, our pizzas were freshly made, cooked and ready in just over 10 minutes and they looked nothing short of perfect and delicious as soon as we brought them over to our table.
Being a big pizza lover, I have certain criteria all pizzas need to fit for it to be great. A good tasting, moreish dough recipe – check, a crust that is on the thicker side – check, decent amount of sauce to crust ratio – check, plenty of fresh and tasty toppings – check; Picture House Social delivered me with by far the greatest pizza I’ve ever eaten. This from a girl who’s been to Italy 3 times as well. I never knew before this year that beetroot could work on pizza but after eating 2 beetroot pizzas from two different establishments, I’m converted. The freshness of the ingredients was clear to taste and being just the right size for an individual pizza, it filled you up perfectly without leaving you stuffed.
My boyfriend said his pizza was really tasty and the perfect size with a crunchy, chewy base and a really good flavour. He enjoyed the arancini as well as it was really tasty and the green pesto that came with the arancini was fantastic and the touch of spice [maybe jalapeno?] added a nice heat to it.
We ordered arancini balls to accompany the pizzas as they are a particularly favourite of me and my boyfriend so we ordered a portion each because no one likes to see couples fighting over food in public. The arancini was perfectly prepared, cooked wonderfully and had a perfect dollop of melted, stringey mozzarella placed in the middle of the tasty rice. Seriously, order arancini with your pizza here, £3 for 5 decent sized, delicious arancini balls is an absolute bargain and a necessity in my eyes.
All in all, the food, the atmosphere and the drinks makes Picture House the place to go in Sheffield right now. Gorgeous pizzas, great sides, a brilliant selection of drinks and all served up in a casual and inviting bar not far outside the city centre. After such good food, I know for a fact that I will be back for another pizza and another round of arancini for sure and make sure you check it out too.

I did get my pizzas for free from winning the competition but all thoughts/opinions on here are my own and Picture House Social didn’t know that I was reviewing them
