Earlier this year, I wrote about the return of Liverpool Soundcity Festival with the announcement of their opening of the band applications. Now though the band have started to announce their line up for the festival and after two big headline announcements, it is already lining up to be another great year for Liverpool’s best festival.
This week, they announced the headline appearance from experimental rock band The Flaming Lips citing this as a homecoming show for the band after the huge influence Liverpool and its music scene has had on the band. After 15 years away from the city, the band will be back to play what should be a spectacular set on Saturday 23rd May.
Here’s what lead singer Wayne Coyne had to say about their headline slot; “We are lucky to have a “place” associated with our identity. We hail from Oklahoma City and even though I’ve lived there my whole life, and the band has always been from there, we are probably more influenced by the city of Liverpool because of the Beatles and our curiosity about their life”
The Flaming Lips will be joining previously announced Belle & Sebastian as two of the first acts confirmed to play the festival which has recently moved location to the new dockland venue. More acts are still set to be announced as well as the final headliner which will be confirmed over the next few weeks.
The festival itself will run between 22nd and 24th of May with conferences taking places on 21st and 22nd May. Wristbands for the festival are available to buy now from their website.
