This week, I’m all about the heavy riffs and metal influences which I think strongly has something to do with Metallica’s recent Glasto set and just how bloody jealous I am of absolutely every single person who witnessed it. Some of you may already be aware of just how much I love Metallica and though I’ve seen them once before I would love to see them again because they are just brilliant! All these acts I love a lot, some are old favourites and some very recent and welcome discoveries. Enjoy!
Royal Blood – Come On Over
Having found out about Royal Blood and their absolutely insane sound sometime last year when I was listening to Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, they have been high on my radar of bands to keep an eye on since then. I’ve not managed to catch them live even though they have played Sheffield since then and I am desperate to see them as I think their shows will be absolutely insane. Until I get a chance to see them though I’ll be constantly checking out their brilliant metal/punk/rock tracks that are mixed with garage and blues tones and eagerly awaiting the arrival of their debut album which is set to be released at the end of August.
Metallica – The Unforgiven
Metallica need absolutely no introduction. One of the greatest metal bands especially during their heyday of the 80’s and 90’s when they absolutely ruled the roost with their thrash metal tracks. I have a hell of a lot of love for Metallica and though their latest stuff is not as good, they are still brilliant and they tour their arses off still even today when they don’t have to with the level they are at. I wish I could have gone to Glasto just to see them if I’m honest, lots of people may have been complaining about them but at the end of the day it’s better than Coldplay headlining again [snore!]
DZ Deathrays – Dollar Chills
I really haven’t listened to DZ Deathrays in such a long time which is odd as I totally loved them in 2012 when I went to see them at Leeds Fest. They may have been on early in the day on a tiny stage but they gave it everything and they were one of the highlights of that weekend for me. I haven’t really checked out their new stuff yet so for the time being have one of their old tracks and one of my favourites ‘Dollar Chills’.
Bring Me The Horizon – Blessed With A Curse
It’s no secret that I love Bring Me The Horizon, I have since the very early days when everyone wrote them off as scene kids that liked to scream a lot in their songs. Since then the band have grown so much to become one of, if not the, best alternative band of our generation. Their rock/alt/metal sound really is so well received these days and with their mature outlook, bags of talent, experience a plenty and the fact they tour lots and they are bloody amazing live, they have continued to produce brilliant album after brilliant album. This track is from their 3rd album ‘There Is A Hell…’ and though it may be 3 years old now this is still and always will be one of my all time favourite BMTH songs.
