This week we have a musical duo from London who are creating some dreamy soundscape electronic music which is absolutely perfect to sit back and lose yourself in.

Vocalist Rose Berlin has recently graduated with a First Class degree in Sculpture but has instead decided to concentrate on making music. For this, she has teamed up with producer, musician, engineer and her father, Dean Garcia – one half of 90’s band Curve. Together they make up SPC ECO, a formal name to the music and songs that they have been creating since Rose was old enough to write and record song with her dad.

Above is ‘Delusional Waste’, the first single from the band’s upcoming album. The single is set for release in May via Kaboom Music and those of you that have caught the new Nick Hornby film ‘A Long Way Down’ may recognise it as it features on soundtrack for the film. Ethereal, almost haunting vocals from Berlin tell of story of not wanting to go out of the world like this while backed up by a 90’s reminiscent trance sound and prominent beat. The build up’s and flowing sounds take it from a track that sounds like it comes from 20 years ago to a track fit for 2014 and especially fit for the soundtrack a Nick Hornby film particularly with those lyrics that sum up a lot of the story of the film too.

Since 2008, the pair have produced and recorded plenty of music in the form of albums and EP’s and all these releases have not gone unnoticed as they have caught the attention of stations like 6Music and Amazing Radio here and college station WZBC and WRIR in Boston and Virginia, USA, respectively. Online and magazines have also had plenty of good things to say about the pair and their music as well with Drowned In Sound describing them as “Noise-laden trancetronica… such an enticing live proposition” and Right Chord Music having this to say “Conjures up images and echoes of MBV and the Cocteau’s combining layer upon layer of guitar laden sound-scapes along with electronic drums and dub heavy bass lines”

The new album is set to take an even more eclectic edge with the pair pushing their sound musically and it should be the perfect soundtrack to this summer with poppy tones and haunting vocals.
