Last year, I featured Liz Lawrence on the blog and since then she and her brilliant track ‘Bedroom Hero’ have gone on to make a big name for themselves and capturing as many people’s attention as possible. Now in 2014, she’s back and ready to build up to the release of a five track EP later on this year. The first track to be taken from that is the really very good title track ‘Health & Safety’ which you can check out below:
On the track she has managed to bring together a plethora of talented and experienced musicians from Mike Rowe on keys who’s worked with Noel Gallagher to Simon Edwards on bass who’s worked with Talk Talk and it’s all been mastered by George Shilling who’s worked with the likes of Oasis and Blur.
Impressive names and impressive credentials but what is really comes down to is the sound she has managed to create in this short track which will be the taster for what is to come. With direct lyrical content and a wonderful harmonious quality to the vocal it takes you in instantly. The swirling guitar reverb, constant strums and a strong drum add to the feel of the track making it a commanding track but not deterring from Lawrence’s brilliant vocal tone.
Liz may only be 23 but she has already made a big impression on the music industry with her own music, a performance at the 2012 Olympics as well as support slots for the likes of Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka and The Civil Wars. She is currently on tour with Bombay Bicycle Club singing backing vocals for the band, something which has gained her even more praise from the music press with The Independent saying; “Liz Lawrence’s wistful vocals (are) sumptuous” and The Guardian simply summing up her vocals as; “Subtly intoxicating”
Her self released debut album ‘Bedroom Hero’ was what really kickstarted all this rightfully gained attention especially when is topped the Bandcamp charts as well as gaining support from the likes of 6Music, Absolute Radio and Q Radio in the UK. Radio in Spain and Germany have picked up and played her sound as well as two of her tracks being used on American TV shows, ‘When I Was Younger’ on The Vampire Diaries and ‘Sons and Daughters featured on several shows.
2014 should be another great and busy year for Lawrence and I’m definitely looking forward to hearing the new EP when it is released, after the strength of the first single it shows promise for what is to come. She’s currently on tour with Bombay Bicycle Club until the end of this month and I imagine live shows will be added for the next few months with the release of the next EP imminent.
