This week I’m bringing to your attention a brilliant singer/songwriter who is already very established in her home country of Canada and is soon to bring her blend of Americana pop with a country twang to these shores with a tour and her new single ‘Water It’ which you can check out below.
Having spent the past few years gaining a strong reputation in Canada has clearly paid off for her as her song writing and music have become well respected over there. To back up that point she was the winner of the 2012 ‘Female Recording of the Year’ at the Nova Scotia Music Awards and has won an East Coast Music Award too. Touring a lot has also helped her get her name out there not just in Canada but America and Europe where she has gained attention from fans and press alike.
‘Water It’ sees a gentle acoustic open proceedings before Martin adds her melancholy, clean cut vocal with a country edge to the track. It’s a lovely song with lyrics about love [the good times and the bad times], catchy melodies and folk sounds interspersed throughout. Other songs on her album ‘Sleeping with a Stranger’ also feature her story-telling lyrics, a soft sound with a country edge yet still remaining accessible to the mainstream and the great voice of Christina.
With this new single due to be released on 10th February and the album set for a UK release date on 24th February, we will definitely be hearing a lot about Christina over the next few months on this little island. She will also be touring the UK with guitar player, Dale Murray, making this the first opportunity for us to catch her live. Dates for the tour are below but if you can’t make it to any of those this time round she will be playing the festival circuit with her full band in the summer too.
