It’s a new year so what better way to kick things off than with a new music post. This first one of 2014 features 22 year old Manchester based singer songwriter, Liam McClair.
The above track ‘Somewhere Before’ is quite frankly beautiful with soft melodies, gentle yet commanding acoustic guitar and the wonderful melancholy lilt of McClair’s vocals. Throughout his entire EP ‘How’ it is clear that he has an understanding of what makes a good single from wonderfully soft moments leaving the emotion of the lyrics to really take charge to the great tunefulness of every single track that will get you having your foot tapping along to the music.
The unsigned act has spent plenty of time on the gig circuit travelling up and down the motorways of this fair country to perform at open mic nights in Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow to name a few. All this travelling and playing paid off when he gained a slot at Liverpool’s Sound City festival last year. Having been featured on BBC Introducing Merseyside and having one of his tracks featured on the playlist at Manchester United’s Ground Old Trafford ground recently, it seems people are starting to take notice of his music and hard work.
Influenced by the likes of Bon Iver, Alt-J, Radiohead and The 1975 McClair’s mix of acoustic folk and melodic guitar sounds has gained him over 5000 plays on Soundcloud. The first recordings from the Manchester lad were released in June last year on his debut EP ‘How’ which you can buy now on iTunes.
