tracks of the week #16

Another trawl through Soundcloud this week led me to find some more brilliant songs to add to my ‘must share with people on my blog’ list, this list is ridiculously long now and is getting longer by the day as more and more bands are releasing new singles, comeback singles and plenty of remixes. But here goes for my five tracks for this week:

Django Django – Love’s Dart [Sal P Liquid Liquid Remix]

Really echoey, slowed down but with a good prominent beat, this one is not a complete chill out track though the ambience is there and it is not really a track you can dance to either. Though it is a good remix and definitely one to check out.

Jacques Greene – Faithful

The second single from his recent ‘On Your Side’ EP has beats and a sound reminiscent to the types of things SBTRKT and Disclosure are doing, the vocal sample comes from Maryland singer Oliver Day-Soul though there is plenty of house influenced beats throughout it has a pretty relaxed feel to the whole track. One to be added to your chill out playlist.

Foals – Bad Habit [Alex Metric Remix]

A slow, steady build up to oriental sounds, electronic drum beat, synths and repeated vocals. When it gets to what would be the chorus it becomes much more uptempo with a quicker beat, a prominent bass line and plenty of layers of sound, turning the indie song into a brilliant club track.

Bastille – Things We Lost In The Fire

This song is one of my favourite Bastille songs and I’m so glad it has finally been released as a single. The video is not at all self-explanatory but this is Bastille we are dealing with and though you may not understand they always produce brilliant videos. Gentle keys back up Dan Smith’s brilliant vocals and beautifully tragic lyrics for the start of the track building up to the big sounds of drums set well against the epic strings. This is easily one of my tracks of the year.

Panic! At The Disco – Miss Jackson

Panic! At The Disco are back and I genuinely can’t tell you how happy I am, I love this band so much and the long breaks in between albums never get any easier to cope with. The band released their new single to the world on Monday along with album info, their fourth album ‘Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!’ will be released on October 8th via Fueled by Ramen, and they released 4 UK dates from Nottingham, Edinburgh, Manchester and London. This song is definitely catchy a particular trait of any Panic! single and it’s different for the band taking them in a slightly different direction more mainstream pop and dance led than anything else they have done before. If you liked Fall Out Boy’s recent album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ then you will love this. Some fans may hate it, for me I’m on the fence, there are good points and bad points and I’m a little indifferent currently so I’m hoping this one is a grower. Regardless of that I’m still excited for the new album and getting to see them live again, roll on October/November!
