tracks of the week #4

It was my 22nd birthday on Sunday and getting one year older to me means I get a little bit more nostalgic about my past. So with that in mind I thought I would put together a collection of songs that I like and some I love that were released in the year I was born. 3 of my favourite albums from 3 amazing bands were released in 1991 – The Black Album by Metallica, Blood Sugar Sex Magick by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nevermind by Nirvana. So here are my tracks of 1991:

Metallica – Nothing Else Matters

My favourite slow ballad from a heavy metal band.

Nirvana – Come As You Are

‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ may be the standout anthem from that album but this is by far my favourite Nirvana song.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Give It Away

A total classic and the live version of this song is pretty spectacular.

U2 – Mysterious Ways

I’ve always been a fan of this band and this is one of my favourite songs by them.

Public Enemy – Shut ’em Down

I’ve only, over the past couple of years, discovered just how influential and utterly brilliant Public Enemy were and still are really. Because of that they obviously had to feature on here at some point and here they are.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – Summertime

Who doesn’t love any track Will Smith has ever created, if you said that you don’t then I know you are more than likely lying.
